Mexican airline Aeromexico has announced that it will offer new flights from Mineta San Jose International Airport to Guadalajara, in order to serve the rising demand for trips to the Mexican tech hub coming from San Jose.

Starting from July 1st, direct flights will be offered six days a week between the two cities, according to an Aeromexico press release.

“This new route will bring more connectivity options between Mexico and the United States with more than 2,200 weekly seats for our clients traveling for business or pleasure,” said Anko van der Werff, chief revenue officer at Aeromexico.

Located in the state of Jalisco, Guadalajara continues to gain recognition from the US as a fast-growing and innovative technology hub, akin to the one and only Silicon Valley, California.

“Guadalajara is a good market for us,” said Vicki Day, a spokeswoman for Mineta San Jose International Airport. “Because it is Mexico’s tech center, there is a lot of business travel, and a lot of friends and family travel as well.”

“More than 20,000 San Jose residents are from this region of Mexico, and they will find a convenient and world-class experience while traveling through San Jose airport,” said Kim Becker, San Jose’s aviation director.

Earlier this month, we also reported that Jalisco is planning to promote innovation further by making it mandatory for the government to invest at least 2% of its annual budget in science and technology.
