Nearshore Americas will soon begin shooting a documentary film on the information technology industries in the Mexican states of Mérida, Aguascalientes, and Baja California, which is home to the Baja IT Triangle. Titled “Mexico’s Rising States of Innovation,” the documentary is designed to shine a brighter light on up-and-coming “tiger” cities of Mexico that are building momentum toward tech stardom in the Americas.

The documentary, which will premiere at Nexus 2016 in San Francisco, will feature an inside look on how these locations are performing in the development of global software exports, animation, digital services, and vertical industry solutions — from healthcare to Hollywood’s film industry. “The documentary platform provides a really powerful way to tell the story and deliver to our audience a realistic understanding of what’s happening on the ground, inside these creative studios,” said Kirk Laughlin, managing director at Nearshore Americas.

This is the second such documentary from Nearshore Americas. The first, titled “Mexico’s States of Innovation” was released last year at Nexus 2015 and continues to run across Nearshore Americas and YouTube, among other platforms. That film focused on the more established cities of Mexico IT innovation, including Querétaro, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Mexico City. The first film was well received by Nearshore Americas followers, especially professionals from Mexico who were quick to point out that they were unaware of how potent and broad the tech services industry has become in their country.

For this year’s project, it remains critical to emphasize the unique sense of place that each of these cities offers, says Laughlin.

Located midway between Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, Aguascalientes is home to a booming auto industry, with global auto giants like Nissan and Toyota churning out cars for the U.S. market. Mérida, known as the capital of Yucatan, is known for its authenticity and rich culture. Meanwhile, the Baja filming will encompass Mexicali, Tijuana and Ensenada, which together form the growing Baja IT Triangle.

Look for the documentary to appear on Nearshore Americas by the middle of May.
