The National Chamber of the Electronics, Telecommunications, and Information Technologies Industry (CANIETI) is meeting with Mexico’s presidential candidates to seek the creation of a new ICT Secretariat and cybersecurity law.

Mario de la Cruz, President of CANIETI, explained that the initial meeting is planned between the 15th and the 30th of April, where the Chamber will propose the two ideas, as well as plans for a National Cybersecurity Agency, the development of talent, and the strengthening of SMEs.

They will also seek a decree that allows for specific tax incentives for the high-manufacturing sector, as well as the implementation of the Infrastructure Development Pact for Universal Connectivity between the three levels of government and industry. Furthermore, they will explore the national migration from the 2G to 3G network and present a review of the fiscal framework of the sector, as well as updating the public policy framework for IT and the creation of digitalization programs for the government, industry, and the financial sector.

“What is possible is to bring connectivity infrastructure to the entire country,” said De la Cruz at a press conference. “We have to look for the mechanisms and it has to be a joint effort between the private initiative, which has the investment capacity, and the government, which has to generate the conditions for the facilitation of that deployment.”
