Mondragón University in the state of Queretaro has joined forces with Oracle and the Vortice IT Cluster in order to continue revolutionizing the state’s manufacturing industry with the help of smart factory technologies, such as automation, internet of things (IoT), and cognitive computing.
As part of the agreement, Oracle will supply the technology tools and solutions needed for Mondragón University to train engineering students in new technologies. On its part, Vortice will encourage industry outlets in the IT Park to increasingly harness new technologies, creating a stronger ecosystem for Industry 4.0.
The decision to join hands with industry players came after one of the surveys conducted by the university found tremendous demand for four new technologies, namely big data, 3D, Internet of Things (IoT), and augmented reality.
Oracle was chosen because the American firm is one among a few technology firms in Mexico developing solutions in all these new technologies, say experts.
Oracle has also reportedly agreed to provide students with practical training in developing solutions in order to make sure that they become employable upon completion of the training.
To be successful in coding and writing software, engineers need to be good at mathematics and logical thinking, reported El Economista, quoting Jorge Buitrón Arriola, President of Vórtice IT Clúster Querétaro, as saying.
Graduates who are good at these branches of study are in high demand in the technology market, Arriola added.
Ever since Continental Research and Development Center was established in Querétaro, there has been a greater demand for skilled engineering talent. Every year, Arriola says, the industry creates jobs for at least 1,000 engineering specialized in technology skills.
Querétaro is known for automotive and aeronautical industry in North America. German industrial conglomerate Siemens has recently built a digital lab in the state to train local engineers in new technologies, including automation and cloud computing.
